The EU Referendum has, over recent months, been the biggest cause of media headlines and polarised debate in many years, and as we head towards 23rd June 2016 the country appears split, with large numbers still undecided.
The results of this seminal vote will have an impact on our country for generations, especially in the Midlands as the UK’s productive manufacturing heartland. Many are still asking for greater clarity and information. As Lib Dems we are keen to Stay In the EU, whilst also promoting real opportunities for debate and discussion around this vital topic – open to all interested parties.
We are therefore delighted to invite you to join our INtogether Referendum Discussion with Baroness Sharon Bowles of Berkhamsted on Monday May 16th 2016 at the iCentrum Café Auditorium, Innovation Birmingham Campus at 6.00pm. The event is free and open to all.
Well known as a high profile MEP serving in the European Parliament from 2005-2014, Sharon has been described as the most influential Briton involved in the development of European Union policy, one of the top ten most influential regulators in the European Union, and one of the most influential women in European and global finance. She made history by being elected as the first Liberal and first Briton to Chair the Parliament's influential Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON), a role she held until she stepped down in June 2014. She was at the heart of the EU’s response to the financial and Eurozone crisis and responsible for financial services, competition and tax, as well as the suite of economic and monetary policy that includes the public accountability of the European Central Bank. This gave her a unique experience as the only person engaged in depth in every financial services negotiation.
