Report exposes government's shallow commitment to justice and human rights - Oaten

Commenting on the report of the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights on the United Kingdom, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Mark Oaten MP said:

"The report exposes this Government's shallow commitment to the principles of justice and human rights.

"Control orders were only ever a short-term fix for suspected terrorists. They cannot be allowed to continue in their present form.

"New legislation must be drawn up quickly to allow terrorist suspects to be put on trial in the courts."
