Solihull's LibDem MP, Lorely Burt paid a visit to the Perry Barr Greyhound Trust in Elmdon this week to offer her congratulations following their successful application to Solihull MBC for permission to kennel up to 16 greyhounds.
Mrs Burt wrote a letter of support to the planning committee and was delighted that the Trust, which finds homes for former racing greyhounds, will be able to continue operating from the site.
"Since the Perry Barr Greyhound Trust took over the kennels last July they have found family homes for over three hundred dogs that have finished racing.
"Nearly forty volunteers help at the centre and they do a fantastic job looking after the dogs who are usually found a new home within a couple of weeks," said Lorely Burt
Ruth Boswell, who runs the Trust, was presented with the 'Home Finder of the Year' award by the British Greyhound Racing Board and the Retired Greyhound Trust in recognition of her work at the kennels.
Ruth said:
"I am so relieved that we were able to get the Certificate of Lawfulness necessary to carry on with our operations as we have built a fantastic team here and I just don't know what would happen to the greyhounds if we weren't able to continue.
"Greyhounds make loving family pets. If you think you might like one, please contact me on 0121 782 7702."
