"Whilst Christmas is a Christian celebration it is also a special time for people of other faiths and those who have no particular religious beliefs. It is a time of human values that are common to mankind the world over when we celebrate and work together, with family, friends, neighbours and loved ones and give thoughts and prayers to those less fortunate than perhaps ourselves.
"Last summer, when I was taken ill so suddenly, it put life into perspective in many ways. Realising that I was lucky to have survived, it made me think about what is really important in life and, at Christmas, this becomes even more prominent.
"I hope that Christmas will be a happy occasion for all and that good company and good health will make it great. 2008 will soon be with us and we should look forward to a bright year ahead. Please accept my very best wishes for this festive season!"
