BURT LAUNCHES 'WALK FOR BUSINESS' IN UPTON

Upton Mayor, Tim Perry and Richard Burt talked to business partners, Karen Ebsworth and Sally Shouler.

Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt launched his weekly 'walk for business' in Upton last Thursday to find out what help business owners needed to survive and prosper during the recession.

Richard and his team were accompanied by Town Mayor, Tim Perry and Peter Webb, Chairman of the Trade and Tourism Group. They talked to around 30 business owners in the town and handed out Richard's small business survey to gain a clearer picture of the likely effects of the recession and what help is needed to ride the storm.

"Business people in Upton are most concerned about high business rates and property valuations as they struggle with declining footfall and takings," said Richard.

Sally Shouler, a partner at Regency House Beauty Salon in Old Street said:

"We want to keep our town centre alive, but we can't defy gravity and we are asking for relief from the Council which will ensure the High Street remains vibrant and varied for all our visitors."

Next week, Richard will be walking the town in Tenbury with local businessman and Liberal Democrat county council candidate, Cliff Slade to listen to the voice of business there.

Mr Burt's small business survey can be completed online at www.richardburt.org

Results will also be sent in confidence to Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable and his Treasury team to help them press for the right government action to help business in Worcestershire.
