Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt is encouraging families in the borough to take part in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record to launch National Family Week on Monday 25th May.
The Family Week Picnic will mark the first day of National Family Week and hopes to become the World's Largest Picnic at multiple venues by the day's end. Running for the first time from the 25th to 31st May 2009, National Family Week is aimed at encouraging families to spend more quality time together.
Mrs Burt said:
"It would be great to see lots of picnics in parks and gardens all over the borough to help set a new world record and promote National Family Week.
"Families can pack a picnic, fetch their friends and head out for a day of fun, games, competitions and entertainment to promote the event.
"As long as there are more than 25 people picnicking it can be counted towards this fun record-breaking attempt."
To run your own picnic, all you need is:
• A minimum of twenty-five people to take part.
• To begin the picnic at 1.00pm on Monday 25th May, 2009.
• Encourage all participants to bring their own picnic mats or rugs and meal, either individually or as a group. Each person should have at least two 'courses' (e.g. a sandwich and fruit or cake) and a drink; each picnic should be a proper picnic with food and beverages.
• To accurately measure and record the number of people taking part, including two witness statements and video footage or photographs.
You will also be able to register your picnic on an events calendar if you want more families to join you in celebrating National Family Week, or to take advantage of some special offers!
