Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has spoken out about her disappointment that the Government is still refusing to compensate Equitable Life victims.
Questioned by the Liberal Democrats in the absence of a promised statement on the last day of parliament, Treasury Minister Liam Byrne confirmed that, despite the recommendations of the Government Ombudsman and the Public Administration Select Committee, Government would not be making a decision on compensation until Sir John Chadwick makes recommendations promised later this month.
Lorely Burt commented:
"I have received dozens of letter from constituents who have lost out on the Equitable Life scandal and are still awaiting action.
"It is a disgrace that the Government are using another review as a stalling tactic before giving Equitable Life's members the compensation they deserve
"Many of the individuals who have suffered in this scandal are no longer alive and others are spending their last years in poverty. I will continue to fight for justice alongside the Equitable Members Action Group."
