Lorely Burt, MP for Solihull has today welcomed the announcement of the coalition between the Liberal Democrats and Labour on the Solihull council.

The agreement was reached in the council chamber last night (Tuesday) and will end more than a decade of Conservative control of the council.

Negotiations started between both parties after Conservatives lost two seats in the local election results on May the 6th bringing the council into No Overall Control.

Speaking after the announcement, Lorely Burt said:

"I welcome the news that the Liberal Democrats will be entering into coalition with Labour in Solihull. "

The results of the local elections left no party with an overall majority.

Liberal Democrats are willing to work with any party to achieve the change local people need and deserve. "

"In Solihull the Tories have run the council for over 10 years, and we believe that we can bring positive change in a coalition with Labour "

"Our councillors already work all year round locally, but they finally have the opportunity to implement our Liberal Democrat policies for the good of the borough as a whole."
