The Liberal Democrats have announced that long standing local councillor Margaret Rowley will be the Lib Dem challenger in May’s Police and Crime Commissioner election in West Mercia.
Margaret said “My 20 years experience of being an elected local councillor means I have the skills of listening to members of the community, championing their views, and where possible achieving their priorities. As PCC, I would hold regular open surgeries throughout the area. I would also make sure that there are effective communications through the local press and online via social media as well as through the website. I will aim to set police objectives that reflect the needs of local people.”
Margaret has lived in Worcestershire for 25 years and until recently was employed as a senior manager in the NHS. Along with her experience in local government, she has built up a wealth of experience of service management in the public sector. Following the recent campaign launch, Margaret has the full support of all the teams from all the areas including Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcester and Telford & Wrekin.
I have signed up to the PCC Checklist on promoting openness, transparency and ethical behaviour published by the Committee on Standards in Public Life.
I believe that transparency, confidence and consent are critical factors in effective and efficient policing.
There have also been concerns about the lack of open competition for key posts and the way in which some decisions have been taken. I believe that West Mercia residents need to know that the appointments I will make are the result of choosing the best person for the job.
