Tory health plans could make the current situation even worse - Lamb

11.24.55am GMT Mon 22nd Jan 2007

Norman Lamb MP, Lib Dem Treasury Select Committee Member

Commenting on the Conservative plans to scrap the Government's health targets, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said:

"It was the fact that we had chronic under-investment under the last Conservative government which led to people having to wait far too long before diagnosis and treatment.

"That in turn led to this Government imposing a mass of targets which in themselves have distorted clinical priorities.

"The return of the Conservatives could lead to reduced investment, making the current unsatisfactory situation even worse."
