5.50.49pm GMT Fri 26th Jan 2007

Norman Lamb MP, Lib Dem Treasury Select Committee Member

Commenting on research published today [Friday] by the Lancet showing that traffic exposure affects children's lung development, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb MP said:

"This report will be disturbing reading for many parents.

"It indicates a need for further analysis and research on the effect of vehicle pollution on children's health. As road usage continues to increase, this issue will have to be taken seriously.

"This research strongly reinforces the environmental case for reducing emissions from road transport."
