No quick fixes on gun crime - Campbell6.37.26pm GMT Mon 19th Feb 2007 Responding to proposals to lower the age at which long prison sentences could be handed out for possessing a gun and reducing the age limit for the minimum five year jail term for having illegal firearms, Liberal Democrat Leader Menzies Campbell said: "The Prime Minister can't legislate his way out of the problems of gun crime and gang culture.
"During ten years in office the Government has not done enough to break the cycle of deprivation in some communities. There are no quick fixes." Applicability: this item refers to England and Wales. Due to devolution, detailed policy may be different in other areas of the UK.
