The Bookstart programme has been running since 2005 and over 10,600 Bookstart book packs have been given out in Solihull to encourage reading for different age groups through libraries, schools, children's centres, nurseries and also the Family Support Service and Jobcentre Plus.
"It was a delight to help with the scheme by reading some stories for youngsters at Shirley Library. Under fives are awarded a different certificate on every fifth trip to the library. After they have been 25 times they also receive a Bookstart teddy bear.
"It's a wonderful way to reward and encourage youngsters to learn to read. If they enjoy learning when they are young, they will reap the benefits for the rest of their lives," said Lorely.
