''COUNCIL'S PARKING PLANS FOR HILLFIELDS A SLEDGEHAMMER TO CRACK A NUT' - LORELY BURT MP

11.08.26pm GMT Mon 12th Mar 2007

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has given her backing to Hillfields residents who are petitioning to protest against Solihull Council's plans to impose parking restrictions in the area.

The council has consulted residents over ongoing problems with drivers leaving their cars in Charterhouse Drive to visit or work in Solihull. Residents are saying that to impose parking restrictions on all residents in Hillfields north of Widney Lane is overkill, and they are being supported by their MP.

Mrs Burt MP said:

"I counted a total of 57 cars parked on Charterhouse Drive at 3.15pm today, and there were very few spaces available in the pay car park off Monkspath Hall Road.

"Whilst I appreciate the lengths that Council officers have gone to in consulting local residents, the solution they have proposed is disproportionate to the problem.

"Nobody is disputing that this overspill parking needs sorting out, but to impose restrictions on every resident across such a wide area of Hillfields is like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut."
