BURT WELCOMES EU FLOOD RELIEF MONEY4.43.52pm GMT Mon 10th Dec 2007
West Worcestershire's Liberal democrat Parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt today welcomed the prospect of £115million from the EU Solidarity Fund to help clean up damage in Britain after the summer floods. A final decision will be taken by the European Parliament and EU Ministers. Richard Burt said: "This will be good news for Worcestershire and Gloucestershire because the money is needed urgently to clear the backlog of repairs left by last summer's floods. "Government simply isn't providing enough money for the Environment Agency to tackle essential repair work. It's all jam tomorrow, but money needs to be spent on roads, drainage and flood defences now."
