Roles on the West Midlands Regional Executive Committee

Below is an overview of the role definitions on the Executive of the West Midlands Regional Committee:

 

President: The President is the principal public representative of the Regional Party.

Chair: Works closely with all other committee members and chairs meetings of the committee. They liaise with ALDC and party HQ on key issues affecting the region and are jointly responsible with the Treasurer for the Region's compliance with the Political
Parties, Elections and Referendum Act 2000.

Vice Chair (Rural) and Vice Chair (Urban): One of the vice chairs deputises for the chair when required, and both exercise other functions as may be prescribed by the Regional Executive.

Treasurer: Handles the financial business of the regional party and presents the annual accounts and outline budget to the Annual General Meeting.

Secretary: Responsible for arranging the meetings of the Regional Executive and keeping minutes, and for the Region's communications with local parties and other bodies within the Party.

Chair of Candidates Committee: Responsible, together with the Regional Candidates Committee, for the functions in connection with the approval and selection of parliamentary candidates and directly elected posts where the electorate comprises more than a single constituency.

Chair of Policy Committee: Responsible, together with the Regional Policy Committee, for the development of regional Party policy and the development of Party policy.

Chair of Conference Committee: Responsible, together with  the Regional Conference Committee for arranging meetings of the Regional Conference, and for maintaining a record of its proceedings and decisions taken.

Chair of Campaigns Committee: Responsible, together with the Regional Campaigns Committee, for the stimulation of campaigning activities within the region, and encourages local parties to co-ordinate campaigning for parliamentary and local elections, and between elections.

Regional Executive Members (a minimum of 6 places):  The Regional Executive is responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing a strategic plan for the region. An Executive Member will be expected to serve on one or more of the Committees.

English Council Representatives: The region is entitled to 8 representatives on the English Council. They are not automatically members of the Regional Executive.
